Pack list for your trip

What to pack can seem like such an overwhelming task, especially when you’re going on a six month trip it’s hard to know what to bring. So don’t worry you’re in the right place and we’re here to help you with what to pack!

First we’d recommend choosing a good backpack for your trip. Osprey has great backpacks, we can see why they are highly recommended and they have ones designed especially for women and men.

We go further into detail about choosing a backpack in our Choosing a backpack post. Have a read.

Backpacks we’d recommend:

  1. Osprey Farpoint (Mens)
  2. Osprey Fairview (Womens)

Packing essential items

  • Packing cubes are a must, making packing so much easier and keeping all your stuff organised, especially when you’re packing up your stuff every couple of days!
  • Head torches come in handy more than you think they will. They’re great for trekking, finding the toilet in the dark and there are lots of power cuts in Asia.
  • Padlocks for your bag, it’s better to be safe than sorry. You will also need these padlocks to lock your bag up at hostels.
  • Universal plug adapators are great, we found when we first went backpacking are bag was full of plugs for all the different countries but now we just carry a couple of universal plugs adaptors
  • Micro fibre towels, Towels can be bulky and take up a lot of room in your bag, we find the microfibre towels so handy they fold up tiny and dry super
  • DEET, Like anywhere in the mosquitoes are such pains, and carry unwanted diseases. We usually use DEET as nothing else seems to work, we’d recommend getting higher than 50% DEET
  • Life straw these come in handy to stop you from buying so many plastic water bottles, also bring your own water bottle.

For the ladies

  • Asian toilets can be disgusting and it’s not nice for the ladies. Standing up for a wee with the shewee is so much better than hovering over a grim toilet
  • The menstrual cup will change your life especially on your travels and it’s also great for the environment! No more having to worry about where to buy tampons and spending the extra cash on them, it’s reusable and just needs to be cleaned, it lasts up to 12 hours so is great for long bus journeys
  • In Asia women will need to cover their shoulders and knees when entering the temples and in some places like India for example this dress code is required all the time. This can get very hot in the Asian climate, so here are some clothes we’d recommend:

Laptops

We carry our laptop with us, it’s great for when you just want a movie night, those long bus journeys, connecting with family and friends or even working
